Water Baptism

Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness. Matthew 3:15

Have questions?

What's the big deal about baptism? Why is it so important? I've already been baptized. Do I need to do it again? Does it matter if it's a sprinkle or a dunk?

If you're considering baptism - maybe you're unsure if it's really something you should do. Or perhaps you don't fully understand why it’s such a big deal! Take a moment or two to read our FAQ below.

Why should I be Baptized?

  1. Well, Jesus Christ was baptized. As followers of Christ, we should aim to follow all of the examples set by Christ! (Mark 1:9)
  2. We were commanded by Jesus to be baptized. It's written in red, so you know it's important! (Matthew 28:19-20)
  3. It's a public declaration of your faith!

Why is Baptism Important?

It demonstrates that you want to dedicate your life to following Jesus Christ. It's a time for your community to come along side you and celebrate this life-changing decision as a whole! And most importantly, it signifies the death of your sin nature and the resurrection of your brand new spirit! How exciting is that?!

Does it really need to be an immersion?

Do you know where the word baptism comes from? It comes from the Greek verb baptidzo, meaning "to immerse." The Bible says that we died, were buried, and resurrected with Jesus Christ (Romans 6:4-6). Our full immersion symbolizes this! The waters of baptism represent a burial ground and the full immersion is the picture of burial. How incredible is that?!

Plus, Jesus did it that way! Everyone who was baptized in the Bible did it that way. So we follow that example too!

Who should be baptized?

Do you believe Jesus Christ is your savior? Then you should be baptized! Everyone that accepts and trust Jesus Christ for their salvation should be baptized. It's an important step of obedience and symbolizes our acceptance of Him!

What if I have already been baptized?

If you have not been baptized by immersion since asking Jesus into your life, then that should be your next step. If you have been baptized since asking Jesus into your life, there is no need to take the dive again.

What about the kiddos?

Baptism should follow any individual's acceptance of Christ, no matter their age. At CFTN Surprise, we don't believe in a Holy Spirit Junior. We believe that if these kids are feeling called to dedicate their lives then they should, but first they need to know what it truly means before committing their lives!

What about infant baptisms?

It's absolutely amazing when a parent dedicates their child to Christ. We encourage it and love to come along side you to celebrate!

Many parents brought their children to Jesus so that He might pray over them, but never did He baptize them. (Matthew 19:13-14)

Baptism is reserved for when an individual accepts Jesus into their heart!

When should I be baptized?

When you make the decision to trust Jesus! Why delay? If you want to wait until you're "good enough" for baptism, then you'll never feel ready to be baptized.

Jesus wants you just as you are! So dive on into your new beginning!

We don't mean you need to go baptize yourself in your bathtub right now! Baptism isn't the completion of your salvation, it's the symbol of it, so it's okay to wait until our next scheduled Baptism Sunday.

Do I need to be baptized before I can serve?

If you haven't been baptized by immersion since you were saved, then water baptism should absolutely be your next step! However, you don't need to be baptized in order to serve! We want to schedule your baptism, but we want you to go ahead and get plugged in to serve in the meantime!

Who will baptize me?

One of our amazing pastors will baptize you! You'll even get a certificate signed by the pastor to commemorate such an important day in your life!

What do I wear?

If you are prepping for this day, we suggest darker clothes (you'll thank us later)! But, if you decided at the end of a Baptism Sunday service you will be all good! We have extra towels and clothes on hand so we've got you covered! We are prepared for you because we know when you get slain in the Spirit, preparation is not always possible!
